The Conference
This conference and associated events will provide an international
forum for an in-depth exchange of ideas and experiences between
artists, curators, academics and theorists and is expected
to attract national and international participants from the
fields of textiles, art, design and fashion practice.
The conference program will include a range of satellite activities:
- Exhibitions and performances
- Public Art retail project
- Workshops
This comprehensive program of activities will provide a forum
for the presentation of new ideas, research and work.
The conference and exhibition program will centre on the new
artistic and theoretical potentialities that have emerged
as a result of the blurring of the boundaries between art,
fashion and textiles. In recent times new, hybrid forms of
practice have developed combining elements from fine art,
contemporary textiles and fashion design. This process of
interdisciplinary synthesis has given rise to modes of artistic
expression that elude the restrictions of traditional categorisations
based on medium or technique. Today many innovative international
artists and designers work in the fluid spaces between the
familiar domains of traditional disciplines. the space between
provides an opportunity to debate the many issues confronting
artists, writers and curators working in these new areas of
practice.
Although the final list of topics for discussion will emerge
from a dialogue between organisers and participants, we have
identified a series of broad thematic areas to offer the initial
stimulus for the conference program development – these
are outlined in the call
for papers & presentations section.
